Beach

February 26, across the sea, we went to a beach, where we had a very relaxing day.


Some of them were having holidays from Manila. Here they treated me some Pataya food.

Tacloban

Got up at 5:30 and took the 6:oo flight from Manila to Tacloban on Saturday, February 25, 2006. Wenqian's friend David, whose brother-in-law owns this resort, arranged me to live in Leyte Park Resort.


Wenqian originally co-owned the shrimp ponds near the sea. Now he has already transfered the owership of the ponds to his previous partners and plans to develop other new ponds with David.


Later on, we had coffee at this hillside cafe, owned by a retired female German engineer.


Then, we came to visit the spot where General Douglas Macarthur of USA returned to the Philipines on October 20, 1944.



Then, through a native village where you could see pigs as well as dogs and chickens roaming on ground, and children were so happy and lovely. Further on, we had to cross on several shaking bamboo bridges over the river which brings water to the fish ponds of David's.



Where native laborers helped to catch some shrimps for dinner.

Church and Temple

朝天宮 - Beigang Mazu Temple

北港朝天宮雖然還正在修復, 但是仍然香火鼎盛, 內外都是人擠人, 水泄不通.
* Note that the roof of the temple is painted on a screen, and the real roof is hidden behind the screen and covered under a temporary shelter for reconstruction .

Homecoming of Xu Ruilan's Daughter

According to the Taiwanese customs, a newly married daughter, with her husband, should come home at the second day after their wedding. Relatives and friends come to celebrate with this new couple. Guests usually present to the couple with a red envelope containing money inside as a token of good fortune. During the dinner, the new couple together with the bride's parents happily toast with the guests.

Dongshi and Budai

We went to Dongshi Fishermen's Wharf. It was very, very windy this day. Here we ate oyster scrambled with egg and vegetable, $50 a plate, then hot coffee and ginger tea.



Then we took highway 61 to Budai Harbor, where we visited the fish market. Later on, we went to Taixi, and had discus-shaped, 'fried oysterburger' along with meatball soup and clam soup.
